Why I Feel the Film Doom Deserve a Second Chance With a Reboot

Over years there has been so many film's done of game franchise yet they seem to fail because the writer or directors haven't done any research or dont understand the story that need to be told for the film to be a success,  this is why they seem to fail.

Doom is no stranger to this failure, yet this was a epic failure due to the fact of the arrogant attitude of the director to which he basically said screw the fan im doing this film my way, which as we know back fired on him & failed big time.

Based on the popular game Doom which is a series of first-person shooter video games developed by id Software. The series focuses on the exploits of an unnamed space marine operating under the UAC (Union Aerospace Corporation), who fights hordes of demons and the undead in order to survive.

Doom is considered to be one of the pioneering first-person shooter games, introducing to IBM-compatible computers features such as 3D graphics, third dimension spatiality, networked multiplayer gameplay, and support for player-created modifications with the Doom WAD format. Since the release of Doom in 1993, the series has spawned numerous sequels, expansion packs, and a film.

Since its debut, over 10 million copies of games in the Doom series have been sold.

The film Doom was a 2005 science fiction action film directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak. It is loosely based on the video game series of the same name created by id Software. The film follows a group of Marines in a Research Facility on Mars – initially arriving on a rescue and retrieval mission after communications ceased, the Marines soon battle genetically engineered monsters plaguing the facility.
After movie rights deals with Universal Pictures and Columbia Pictures expired, id Software signed a deal with Warner Bros. with the stipulation that the movie would be greenlit within 12 months.Warner Bros. lost the rights, which were subsequently given back to Universal Pictures who started production in 2004. The film was an international co-production of the United States, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, and Germany. In an interview with executive producer John Wells, he stated that a second film would be put into production if the first was a success at the box office. Ticket sales for the opening weekend totaled more than US$15.3 million, but dropped to $4.2 million in its second weekend.
The film doom had a Budget $60 million but failed to make the money due to the failure of the film it only made Box office $56 million

Now this is a shame because the film concept is good for a film but like i said in the arrogance of the director it failed but it still had some good point but not enough to save the film.

Here the point i will give that worked for the film.

Casting :  The good choice of actor in this film for the team was perfect casting, they had the right feel of a military team, i love teh code names like reaper, goat , the kid , etc great special op team names which work for the film.

The other thing as well they didn't go over board of special effect there was a few practical effect in this film was work in some area's

Like the hell knights from the doom game , They tried to make it as close as possible in the film yet the facial structure is different, the body structure is the right size.

Same can be said with the imps of the doom game, the design in the film is close to the game.

The dog like creature was use in the film which  was a good use of the creature, although C.G.I special effect  that were used here sometime felt fake.

The fact they used the concept of mars as well which is the concept of where the base is on mars in the game & using the archaeological dig site theme which worked for the film as well.

But here is where this film fail's in a major way & why the director should have listened to the fans.

The concept of doom is about scientist discovering ancient tablets & alien technology they have never seen before, they discover that the write are picturing a portal that can be opened, but unknown to them this door way opens to hell , which destroyed the alien millions of years ago.
Now this is where the game story take a ugly turn when you arrive on the station & all hell break loose & demon come flooring out of the gate killing everything & possessing everyone in sight.

This is where you thrown in to a nightmare situation alone & fighting the hordes of hell to close the gate before they can reach earth. One unique thing about this game was it dark atmosphere & not knowing where anything is. you get moments where demons would teleport in on glowing pentagram to hunt you down.

Now the film version did the opposite yes it had the team going under ground to a special complex uci where they were teleported to mars, but where the fail fail's is that there wasn't an atmosphere of the mars complex being big, we barely got to see anything that the game showed.

what the director should have done with this film is done it like alien's, have more corridors, more rooms, with body hanging from the ceiling & the place looking like hell & atmospheric, this would have worked for the concept & kept close to the game special with the casting.

Believe the director screw up this story concept by change the main theme with was meant to be demon hordes from hell to a stupid genetic virus concept which has been done so many time before with the resident evil film, this is why it flop.

He should have listen to the fans & followed the route concept of the game it would have been an awesome film, but the version we got just failed in so many way.

Now i believe with the right director this film could get a reboot & done right to give it some justice because the concept of demons from hell is hardly used in the horror genre, its become all about zombie, zombie this zombie that, o be honest the zombie genre is over used.
I think now would be a good time for this franchise film, special with the new doom game, to get a new reboot to this film give it the right story that follows the games.

Director choice i would consider : John carpenter or Guillermo del Toro would be good choices to turn this film in to a true doom story with a very dark creepy atmosphere that would make this a great film. but this is just my opinion's on this franchise.

what do you think, do you thing doom should get a remake or reboot , or do you think it shouldn't be done again?
